Spring is on its way and with it, the sportive season. Yorkshire is not only home to VeloSkin HQ, but some of the best riding in the country (we're not biased, honestly). So we thought we'd highlight some local sportives for you to try this year, and see God's Own Country via bike.
1. Struggle Dales
14/05 - Harrogate
Renowned for being some of the hardest rides in the country, the Struggle sportives are not for the faint hearted. The Struggle Dales is 108 miles long and takes in 9430ft of elevation including iconic climbs Park Rash and Greenhow Hill. Find out more and enter here.
2. The Yorkshire Beast Sportive
24/06 - Thirsk
The longest sportive on our list at 203.2 miles, it takes in 18,333ft of elevation. But that's not all, the Yorkshire Beast will be chasing you and sweeping up any riders going slower than a 12.5mph average! Fancy your chances? Learn more here.
3. Yorkshire Moors Gravel Epic
10/6 - Helmsley
With three route choices of 52km, 76km and 111km, there's something for everyone in one of Yorkshire's biggest gravel events. Mixing heather-filled moorland and stunning woodland, it's perfect for getting your off-road fix this summer. Read more here.
4. Struggle Moors
02/07 - Ampleforth
Taking in some of North Yorkshire's most fearsome climbs, the Struggle Moors showcases some of the best riding the county has to offer while keeping you on your toes with over 10,000ft of elevation in 112 miles. Want to learn more? Click here.
5. Etape du Dales
21/05 - Grassington
Another tough ride, Etape du Dales allows riders to best themselves against the ascents of Buttertubs and Fleet Moss to name a few. It's 110 miles in length and boasts one of the quiestest sportive routes around. Find out more here.
6. Gears & Beers Charity Event
01/04 - Hebden Bridge
Right down the road from our HQ is the Gears & Beers Charity ride taking place on the 1st April. There are two on-road route choices of 80km or 110km, and one off-road route. Hosted by Vocation Brewery, the event will raise money for Overgate Hospice, and we're pleased to be a sponsor. Want to learn more? Click here.
7. Sportive HQ's Flat 100
10/06 - Thorne
Yorkshire isn't all hills and cobbles! If you're looking to pop your century cherry then this fast and flat 100 option from Sportive HQ is the perfect event. There's even 100km or 31 mile options for those who don't fancy the full distance. Find out more here.
