Tour Series Dramas
Over the past few days, we've seen the legendary Tour Series take place in various Towns and Cities, predominantly in the North.
Starting in Guisborough, dipping into Sunderland and finishing in Castle Douglas, we were present and represented by Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling and Canyon DHB SunGod as well as a few independent riders.
The racing is fast, frenetic and fun. With 6 race victories up for grabs across men's and women's races, sprint laps and an overall team standing for both men and women, there is plenty to play for!
During round 1 at Guisborough, Matt Gibson continued his fine form taking a terrific solo win, whilst the rest of the team were able to make good of the evening and bring in the Team Victory on the night as well. The Canyon DHB SunGod boys were fraught with bad luck as they suffered a crash and both Matt Bostock and Rory Townsend were unable to continue the series, which left their title retention wide open.
Round 2 in Sunderland saw a hard fought race with a winner coming from the Welsh Cycling Academy. Both our teams were present in the finale take 3rd and 4th whilst the Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling boys were able to maintain their grip on the overall standings.
The standings were tight heading into the final round, with just a few points between the teams as well as another race win up for grabs.
The battle between Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling and Canyon DHB SunGod was epic as Canyon ploughed 5 riders into the break and threw everything they had at the boys from Ribble in a bid to topple their team standings.
In the end, honours were split as Charlie Tanfield, fresh from the Olympics and Tokyo took a great win for Canyon, but the guys from the Ribble Weldtite team held on to their team standing by a single point and won the series after a great few days of racing.
